CELLS

A collaboration between artist Ms. Louisa. E. Phillips and mathematician Dr. Jake P. Taylor-King. These series of illuminated artworks are created by layering 5 acrylic panels onto a light box separated by a 3mm partition. The histopathology sample shown is taken from a breast cancer biopsy stained with a collection of heavy metal labelled antibodies for measurement of cell surface proteins - allowing for the identification of cell type. A mass spectrometry readout shows the intensity of one of these proteins indicative of tumour aggression. A mathematical model then allows for the visualisation of (diffusive) paracrine signalling as shown in the final layer.
